WEIGHT LOSS

Duodenal Switch

Gastric Balloon
A gastric balloon is ideal for patients who have tried many alternative ways to lose weight, but would prefer to avoid surgery. It is a balloon that is inserted into the stomach and inflated, thus reducing stomach capacity and the amount of food a person can comfortably eat.

Gastric Bypass
Gastric Bypass surgery divides the stomach into a small upper pouch and a much larger, lower “remnant” pouch and then re-arranges the small intestine to allow both pouches to stay connected to it. The resulting weight loss, typically dramatic, markedly reduces comorbidities. The long-term mortality rate of gastric bypass patients has been shown to be reduced by up to 40% of these procedures limit the patient’s food intake by restricting the size of the stomach – ultimately contributing to weight loss.

Gastric Sleeve
Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to about 15% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples) to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach. The procedure is performed laparoscopically and is not reversible.

Lap Band Surgery
Lap Band Surgery involves the fitting of a laparoscopic adjustable gastric band around the stomach via a surgerical procedure. It is designed for obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater and is a restrictive device implanted to reduce appetite. The gastric band is an inflatable silicone prosthetic device that is placed around the top portion of the stomach, usually via laparoscopic surgery.

Mini Gastric Bypass
Mini Gastric bypass is surgical procedure for the treatment of morbid obesity. Mini Gastric bypass surgery makes the stomach smaller and allows food to bypass part of the small intestine. You should feel full more quickly compared to when your stomach was its original size, which reduces the amount of food you eat. Bypassing part of the intestine also results in fewer calories being absorbed which is what leads to the weight loss.
