Cataract Removal
Cataract removal is a surgical procedure to replace a lens affected by cataracts with an artificial lens. Cataracts are usually removed using a technique called phacoemulsification. However, in certain circumstances it may be necessary to use an alternative technique.
Degenerative Myopia
Degenerative myopia is the seventh leading cause of legal blindness, occurring in about 2% of the U.S. population. Degenerative myopia is more severe than other forms of myopia and is associated with retina changes, potentially causing severe vision loss.
Detached / Dislocated Retina
Detached retina is a condition that can lead to blindness if it is not diagnosed and treated very quickly. Once the retina has become detached, it needs to be surgically repaired to restore or arrest loss of vision. If the detachment is partial a special type of laser treatment called photocoagulation can be used. This treatment creates a scar around the edge of the retinal hole, fusing the retina to its underlying layer and preventing the entry of damaging fluids.
Glaucoma Surgery
The fluid that flows in and out of the eye does so via drainage tubes in the eye. Sometimes these can become blocked and fluid builds up causing pressure on the optic nerve; this is the cause of glaucoma. This can result in a loss of vision, which in severe case can lead to blindness. Glaucoma surgery is a procedure to help treat glaucoma, however, success rates can vary.
Hypermetropia With LASIK Surgery
Hypermetropia, also known as long sightedness is a defect of vision caused by an imperfection in the eye. LASIK is a recently developed operation, which can correct both long and short sightedness and also astigmatism. Hypermetropic Laser-Lasik consists of using an excimer laser and the procedure is done on one eye after the other.
Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is often the solution for patients who are not candidates for LASIK (Either you are too nearsighted or your corneal tissue is too thin.) The procedure involves a small incision being made into the cornea and the ICL is inserted and located into the correct position. The entire procedure will take 20 to 30 minutes.
LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK eye surgery (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure for those with less than perfect vision, to correct the shape of the cornea in the eye. Following LASIK eye surgery, most patients no longer need to wear contact lenses or glasses. Successful refractive eye surgery can reduce or cure common vision disorders such as astigmatism, myopia and hyperopia.
Strabismus Surgery
Strabismus surgery is a reconstructive surgery carried out as a day-case procedure under a general anaesthetic. To straighten the eyes, the surgeon uses a combination of muscle strengthening and weakening procedures. Convergent squint conditions are corrected by the outer muscle of the in-turned eye being strengthened by removing a section of muscle.
