Bridges
Bridges are dental replacements for missing teeth that literally ‘bridge’ the gap in the teeth. Dental bridges are false teeth anchored on neighboring teeth in order to replace one or more missing teeth. The false tooth is known as a pontic and is fused in between two crowns that serve as anchors by attaching to the teeth on each side of the false tooth and thereby bridging them together.
Crowns
Dental crowns refer to the restoration of teeth using materials that are fabricated by indirect methods which are cemented into place. A crown is used to cap or completely cover a tooth. They are tooth restorations that protect damaged, cracked or broken down teeth. A crown strengthens your existing damaged tooth so as to preserve its functionality. Dental crowns are also commonly known as caps because a crown sits over your existing tooth covering the entire outer surface analagous to how a baseball cap would cover your head.
Dental Bone Graft
For dental implants to be successful, the jawbone must have enough bone to support them. Dental bone grafting is a procedure that is used to “build” bone so that dental implants can be placed. These procedures involve grafting (adding) bone or bonelike materials to the jaw, and waiting for the grafted material to fuse with the existing bone.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are artificial root replacements for the teeth; the implant is essentially a rod that is rooted into the jawbone to support cosmetic replacements (crowns, dentures or bridges). It is an artificial substitute or replacement for the root portion of your natural tooth and is anchored into a pre-drilled socket in your jaw-bone to support a crown, bridge or secure a denture firmly in place. Implants are made from titanium, a material that is well tolerated by bone and integrates easily with bone tissue. During the placement of a dental implant the goal is to achieve a close contact between the outer surface of the implant and the surrounding bone tissue so they can “fuse” together (osseointegration) creating a stable support for the new teeth.
Dentures
Dentures are artificial devices to replace a partial or complete loss of teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or both. They are removable, and designed to emulate your own teeth and gums.
Gum Surgery
Gum surgery, or periodontal surgery, is a procedure to treat the gingiva, the soft tissues of the mouth that surround the necks of a person’s teeth and support the bone. There are several different types of gum surgery procedures; crown lengthening, gingival flap surgery, gingivectomy, gingivoplasty and soft-tissue grafts. Inlays (Porcelain)
Porcelain inlays are similar to fillings; they sit inside the tooth – usually inside the back teeth where chewing takes place. The porcelain material used creates a natural looking tooth as your dentist can match it to the colour of your original teeth.
Root Canal
Root canal treatment (otherwise known as endodontic treatment) is a procedure to remove decayed or infected ‘pulp’. Pulp is the name used to describe the blood and nerve supply that stretches into the root of the tooth through the root canal. The canal is removed of damaged pulp and filled in during root canal treatment.
Sinus Elevation
Sinus elevation surgery is used to increase the height of bone for dental implant placement in the posterior maxilla. The procedure involves an osteotomy performed on the lateral maxillary wall, elevation of the sinus membrane, and placement of bone graft material.
Surgical Extractions
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth (or teeth) from the mouth, either due to damage or decay, or to make room for new teeth (e.g. wisdom teeth).
Teeth Bleaching
Teeth bleaching or teeth whitening is a procedure to lighten the colour of discoloured or stained teeth through the application of chemical agents to the enamel of the teeth.
Teeth Whitening (Laser)
Advance dental technique to lighten to color of teeth through the use of lasers. Typically this procedure is significantly quicker than whitening using bleaches.
Tooth Extraction
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth (or teeth) from the mouth, either due to damage or decay, or to make room for new teeth (e.g. wisdom teeth).
Veneers
Dental veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are created to fit over the front of the tooth or teeth, to produce a more aesthetically pleasing finish.
White Bonded Composite Fillings
White fillings (otherwise known as composite fillings) are used to ‘fill in’ decayed parts of a tooth. They are made of a composition of glass particles and synthetic resin, and can be matched to the shade of the original tooth, blending in to create a natural appearance.
Zirconium Implant
Zirconium is a chemical element. It is a lustrous, gray-white, strong transition metal that resembles titanium. It is used as an alloying agent due to its high resistance to corrosion. Zirconium is the ‘White Gold’ of implantology and Zirconium-based implants are an ideal option for patients suffering from a metal allergy
