CANCER TREATMENT

Bone Marrow Transplant
A bone marrow or stem cell transplant is where abnormal stem cells from a person’s bone marrow are destroyed and replaced with healthy stem cells, either from that person or from a donor. The bone marrow is a spongy substance in the center of most bones. Your bone marrow contains stem cells that mature and into three types of cells; white and red blood cells and platelets.

Brachytherapy (Prostate)
This technique uses radioactive seeds to deliver radiotherapy directly into the cancerous prostate gland. The seeds are inserted into the prostate and produce low level, continuous radiation for one year, destroying cancerous cells. The seeds are approximately the size of half a grain of rice and as only a small area is affected by the radiation from each seed, very little radiation reaches adjacent normal organs.

Brain Tumor Surgery
Although there is no generally accepted therapeutic management for primary brain tumors, a surgical attempt at tumor removal or at least cytoreduction (that is, removal of as much tumor as possible, in order to reduce the number of tumor cells available for proliferation) is considered in most cases. Many meningiomas, with the exception of some tumors located at the skull base, can be successfully removed surgically. Most pituitary adenomas can be removed surgically, often using a minimally invasive approach through the nasal cavity and skull base (trans-nasal, trans-sphenoidal approach). In more difficult cases, stereotactic radiosurgery, such as gamma knife radiosurgery, remains a viable option. Large pituitary adenomas require a craniotomy (opening of the skull) for their removal. Radiotherapy, including stereotactic approaches, is reserved for the inoperable cases.

Cyberknife Cancer Therapy

Green Laser Light Therapy (Prostrate)
Prostate Cancer – Green Laser Light Therapy involves a high powered laser destroying surplus prostate tissue. An enlarged prostate can thus be opened up and prevent the blockage of the bladder. The laser vaporises excess tissue using safe and precise energy pulses. Blood vessels in the target area are also vaporised, which means there is very little bleeding. Compare your options for Green Laser Light Therapy below.

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (Prostate)
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), is a new treatment for Prostate Cancer. The technique uses of ultrasound to destroy deep-seated tissue with pinpoint accuracy. It focuses sound waves in a targeted area which rapidly increases the temperature in the focal zone causing tissue destruction. Unlike radiation, HIFU is non-ionizing; this means that HIFU may also be used as a salvage technique if other prostate cancer treatments fail.

Holmium Laser – Core Through Urethrotomy
The holmium laser core-through urethrotomy (HolCTU) is a safe and simple treatment for traumatic obliterative urethral stricturesis. It is a minimally invasive procedure and uses laser energy to relieve enlarged prostate symptoms. With holmium laser therapy, patients experience minimal pain after the operation and spend less time in the hospital.

Holmium Laser – Stricture Urethra
Holmium laser urethrotomy is a safe, effective and minimally invasive procedure for males suffering from urethral stricture. A urethral stricture is a narrowing of a section of the urethra. It causes a blocked or reduced flow of urine which can lead to complications. There are various treatment options which aim to widen the narrowed section of the urethra.

Laser Prostatectomy
Laser Prostatectomy for benign Prostate.

Nephrectomy Malignant

Optical Urethrotomy/Laser
Optical urethrotomy is generally performed with the patient under general or major regional anesthesia. This is used to treat strictures of the urethra. This procedure involves telescopic inspection of the urethra and bladder with incision of a stricture (narrowing caused by scar tissue) using a visual knife or laser fibre.

Radical Prostatectomy (Prostate Surgery)
There are different types of prostate surgery available depending on what treatment is best suited to the individual. Radical prostatectomy is a common form of prostate surgery that involves removal of the prostate gland (usually due to prostate cancer).

Rectal Resection
Rectal resections repair damage to the rectum caused by diseases of the lower digestive tract. Masses and scar tissue can grow within the rectum, causing blockages that prevent normal elimination of faeces. The doctor will make an incision in your abdomen over the part of the bowel to be removed. Surgical removal of the damaged area can return normal rectal function.

Transurethral Resection Of Bladder Tumor (TURBT)
Trans urethral Resection of Bladder Tumour is an operation performed on patients who have cancer or a tumour in the bladder. The procedure allows the surgeon to remove as much of the tumour as possible. Trans Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumour is performed by use of a telescope passed up the urethra. The tumour is then either partially or totally cut away. Removal of the tumour in the bladder will prevent spread of any cancer to the other organs in the body.
